Title
Consecration: The most senior Venerable monk from Lynn presides over the ceremony, 1987
Date
1987
Description
The Venerable monk from Lynn, Massachusetts, who is the most senior of the monks presents will preside over the ceremony and is seated in a higher chair than the rest. The laity must not sit higher than the monks who must not sit higher than the Buddha statue. For that reason it is customary for members of the laity to stoop when walking in the presence of the monks. This is also true when a younger layman walks among the senior members of the congregation.
