Basket Making: Em Yung shaves each bamboo splint, 1987

Em Yung begins the long process of individually shaving each bamboo splint until they are thin enough to weave into a basket. He wraps a piece of material around his finger to insulate his skin against the heat generated each time the splint is pulled over the knife.
